January 25, 2012: Morgan Freeman Tribute Goes Viral After this year's Golden Globe Awards broadcast, the global media responded with unanimous praise of Dick Clark Productions' tribute to Cecil B. DeMille award winner Morgan Freeman. In particular, the obscure clip of Freeman as Count Dracula taking a bubble bath in a casket from the 1974 program The Electric Company gained viral notoriety on YouTube. Congratulations to editor Nicholas Goodman for his amazing piece, and here's the video (open in new window or tab) for anyone who missed the broadcast!
January 2012: Congratulations, Mr Freeman - Music in the Golden Globes On Sunday, January 15 at 8pm EST/5pm PST, tune in to the 69th Annual Golden Globe Awards on NBC. That evening the Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to the incomparable Morgan Freeman, following a montage of his performances for which Jay was commissioned to write a drum-heavy orchestral introduction. Congratulations to this tremendous actor, and thanks for the many meaningful times at the movies!
December 2011: New season of Ninjago premieres on Cartoon Network On Friday, December 2nd at 6/5C, tune in to Cartoon Network for the season premiere of the hit animated series LEGO Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu. Join Kai, Jay, Cole, Zane, and Sensei Wu on a whole new adventure, with lots of surprises, plenty of snakes, and a lot of new tunes from Mr. Vincent and Mr. Mike Kramer. November 2011: Jay in the L.A. Times, interviewed on BTR The Los Angeles Times ran a recent article on the media music enterprise scoreAscore.com, featuring a story on how Jay and writing partner Mike Kramer came to score LEGO Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu. scoreAscore's successful representation of the two composers in the international business deal became the launchpad for the success that earned CEO Jordan Passman to be voted Business Week's Young Entrepreneur of the Year. Check out the article here. Recently Jay also did an interview with the very entertaining Motown Maurice about life in the business on his radio show Hustle & Shuffle. The conversation with the man called "the future of Late Night" included Mexican food, movies that made them cry and, of course, the tunes. Check it out here.
October 2011: Ninjago Begins Full Two Seasons December 2012 This month WilFilm and the LEGO company announced new 3D animated series "LEGO Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu" has been signed on for two full seasons after the hour-long special continues to bring in #1 ratings internationally, and the weekly series will begin in January 2012. A truly global production, "Ninjago" is written in Germany, animated in Indian and China, voiced in Canada, mixed in Denmark, and scored by Jay and partner Mike Kramer ("Sons of Tuscon") here in Hollywood. Especially if your sense of humor is a little left of center. Come check out the world premiere of this demented masterpiece, directed by Pedro Brenner, at the AMC 6 Theatre in Burbank on Sunday September 18 at 6:15pm. Click here for tickets and directions. As the final arrangements regarding principal photography are being made for "The Curse of Manizales," director Adolfo Rivera is gearing up his cast and crew for a month-long trip to Colombia to shoot the film on location, making full use of the landscape, history and great big cathedral. Jay has been commissioned to compose much of the film's score, which will be recorded live with the Orquesta de Cámara de Caldas, during the shoot itself. August 2011: Earth Falls, Rock Lives--Mass Effect 3's New Trailer Jay's latest collaboration with EA/Bioware director Neel Upadhye yielded this trailer featuring sounds reminiscent of old time favorites Tool and Rage Against the Machine. The "Fall of Earth" trailer marks the world premiere of gameplay from EA's newest installment of the blockbuster "Mass Effect" franchise. It premiered at the E3 showacse in June, along with the first ever live-action Mass Effect trailer, written and directed by Upadhye. Check out the music for "Fall of Earth" here.
July 2011: "Dragon Age 2: Epic Times " available on iTunes and Amazon, "Ninjago" greenlit for 2 seasons and 26 new episodes EA and Bioware are pleased to announce their new soundtrack to the hit video game Dragon Age 2, entitled "Epic Times," which contains Jay's piece "Legend of Hawk" as the bonus closing track.
April 2011: "Dragon Age" in Times Square, March Madness, Family Guy, ESPN; "Fake" begins festival run 2 TV spot trailers for EA/Bioware's "Dragon Age 2," directed by Neel Upadhye and featuring more Classical/Metal blended music, will be airing on all the major television networks this month. Spot times include the NCAA Basketball Tournament on CBS, Family Guy on Fox, ESPN, Cartoon Network, and Times Square in New York City. The most recent full-length trailer can be seen online here, or click a title to hear the score samples : "Choose Your Champion" / "Let It Begin" / "Rising to Power" "Fake," a feature film starring Oscar winner Fisher Stevens, Oscar nominee Robert Loggia, Gabriel Mann, Jill Flint and David Thornton, will make its West Coast premiere at the Newport Beach Film Festival. The festival will take place April 28-May 5 and exact screening times will be announced soon. Directed by Gregory W. Friedle, the film features a chamber orchestra with piano, guitar, and many virtuosic cello solos by Joo Lee. A collaboration with Sons of Tuscon's Mike Kramer, this Neo-Japanese Orchestral soundtrack features woodwind wizard Chris Bleth, whose film credits outnumber John Williams. The new trailer for the EA/Bioware phenomenon "Dragon Age 2" launched worldwide February 8, featuring steroid-ridden Medieval Metal and a vocal solo by Allie Feder. December 2010: New show, new films, new festivals After two months of collaboration with co-writer Mike Kramer, the animation project is soon to be revealed. On December 6, a new series will air in Germany on Super RTL, with the rest of the world soon to follow. It will be shown on Cartoon Network for all major territories, it involves Ninjas, and features superstar woodwind soloist Chris Bleth of Battlestar Galactica and Chronicles of Narnia fame. That's all we can say for now. Broken Dreams continues its festival run, screening in New York City, Oaxaca, and Venice--where it received the Best Picture award. The Agency will be screening at the Showbiz Expo Film Festival in Los Angeles the weekend of December 4-5, and Fake will begin its long festival run as soon as Alexi Murdoch's management signs off on Jay orchestrating over one of his songs.
July 2010: Freaks and a lot of geeks, new team in Variety After having finished a commissioned music suite for the comic property Freakshow, Jay will join writers Jackson Lanzing and David Server, along with artist Joe Suitor, at Comic Con in San Diego on July 22-25 to promote the book. A recent Variety article talks about how acclaimed screenwriter Mark Protosevich (Thor, I Am Legend, Posdeidon, Mass Effect) is adapting the property into a studio film, produced by Sheldon Turner (Up In The Air) and Jennifer Klein (Pearl Harbor).
